Workshop with practical exercises and a bit of theory
Abdominal exercises: the big absentee from yoga postures
Most postures aim for rigorous alignment or unusual joint maximums.
Few postures are aimed directly at building abdominal muscles, whereas their strength is required in more advanced poses such as balances.
So I've added an abdominal strengthening section to most class .
This workshop will clarify what progression is possible and how to add some of these exercises to your practice...
Workshop objectives
A little anatomy: what muscles are we talking about?
What postures or exercises strengthen them, and what are the challenges (back discomfort, impact on the pelvic floor, etc.)?
Destination: What advanced postures require a lot of core strength?
Exercises: proposal of several postures or exercises and gradation (from easy to difficult).
Precautions
Since the 2000s, a heavy case has been made against abdominal pressure exercises. They are said to lead to pelvic floor dysfunction (e.g. "urine leakage", etc.).
Since then, new types of exercise called hypopressive have been advocated, and most physiotherapists have joined the ranks of these exercises.
Crunch, for example, has been banned.
This point will be covered in detail during the workshop.
