Postural Yoga

Meticulous, powerful and sensational yoga.

class consists of a sequence of postures held from 30sec to 2min.

Assimilated to "Hatha Yoga", freely inspired by the Iyengar style, this style aims to balance

  • On the one hand, strength, flexibility and aesthetic postures

  • On the other, sensations and the effect on the state of being

Assimilated means that we do not claim to be part of this rather sulphurous lineage, nor do we participate in the veneration of "well-being" as usually propagated in the yoga zone...

Course of a class

  1. Seated posture and a greeting

  2. Floor & standing postures:

    • standing postures are safe and provide the strength needed for other postures.

    • floor postures are designed to strengthen muscles (abdominal, back, arms, etc.) or increase maximum joint strength (flexibility).

  3. Inversion sequence.

  4. Closing

  5. And a return to the sitting posture for the final "greeting".

Monthly themes

According to the Iyengar tradition in our country, 4 themes follow one another in loops:

  • Month 1: Standing postures

  • Month 2: Forward bending and/or twisting

  • Month 3: Bow

  • Month 4 : Pranyama (or breathing...)

These 4 themes allow us to cover a wide variety of subjects and postures, and not restrict ourselves to one family of postures.

In our experience (and in terms of class and personal practice), you can spend a lot of time on this cycle without exhausting it...

And to ensure everyone's interest, we add new features for regular participants and basic information for beginners.

We assess the level of difficulty of class and try to adapt it to the participants present (although we have no reliable way of checking this...).
It's an art, in that sense...

Basic

  • For people who have never done yoga before

  • For those who prefer a more gentle session to get back into shape.

Basic instructions are taught for some fifteen postures.

Level 1&2

  • No more postures,

  • Numerous detailed instructions for each posture.

The main concern is to avoid overloading the back in flexion, pinching the lower back in an arch, or the knees in an arch.

A gradual ramp-up method is proposed for those who want to improve their postures first and foremost.

Level 3

Technical sessions

The aim is to work on a few postures around a theme: bowing ability or shoulder work.

Exercises are linked together, some postures in twos or threes, with accessories, and participants share the results of their experimentation.

The session ends with a short sequence that uses what was detailed in the first part.

Sensational Session

The postures and instructions are assumed to be known and you are able to make each posture "interesting" for yourself. They are held longer (usually 2x as long) and more advanced postures are added...

Sessions are quieter (less or no instructions) and more meditative. The aim here is less technical than"sensational", i.e. a greater impact on the state of being.

In particular, inversions are mastered (postures on the head (Tripods - Sirsasana) & on the shoulders (Candle - Sarvangasana)).
